Day 1 - Saturday; Los Angeles - Phoenix Departing from Los Angles we begin the drive to one of the nation's most marvelous wildernesses, Joshua Tree National Park, which gets its name from the giant yucca plants that abound in park. Here, you will find an array of desert foliage that includes thousands of peculiar plants. Enjoy views of the rugged mountains of twisted rocks and exposed granite monoliths that lie at the meeting point of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. Day 2 - Sunday: Phoenix – Grand Canyon Rise and shine with the Phoenix sun…. we begin the day traveling north towards Montezuma Castle National Monument. Once at Montezuma, view one of the best preserved cliff dwellings that still holds the five story, 20 room ruins, which were built by the Sinagua Indians in the 12th Century. Next, to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon-known as one of the World's Seven Natural Wonders. The Grand Canyon was carved by the force of the Colorado River. It is more than an awe-inspiring view with the canyons ranging up to 378 km in length and 7 to 30 km in width. As you gaze out from the rim, you’ll realize the magnitude of nature at its finest. Upon check-in, you will have an evening at leisure. Day 3 - Monday: Grand Canyon – Bryce Canyon This morning after breakfast we will allow some time at leisure before departing to the Mormon State of Utah. While still in Arizona, enjoy a visit to the Indian town of Page where lunch is at leisure. Next we are headed to Utah, where we will visit the majestic spires known as the “hoodoos” located in Bryce Canyon National Park. These Hoodoos have created the rainbow colors of red, yellow and orange, rock formations known as the amphitheater, along with towering cliffs. Upon check-in, you will have an evening at leisure. Day 4 - Tuesday: Bryce – Zion – Las Vegas This morning we will take a drive south to Zion National Park, which will celebrate one hundred years of Sanctuary; it was back in 1909 that Zion, originally known as Mukuntuweep National Monument, allowed visitors to enjoy the history and culture that dates back centuries. You will also view the many landmarks, including the Weeping Rock and a trio of shaped cliffs known as the three Patriarchs named after Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. We then continue to the famous city of Las Vegas to be welcomed by neon lights, slot machines and a variety of entertainment. Upon check-in, you will have an evening at leisure. Day 5 - Las Vegas – Hoover Dam Today, let's wander away from the busy Las Vegas strip on a 50 km drive to Hoover Dam known to be one of the “modern engineering wonders of the world”. Hoover Dam was built into the walls of Black Canyon to hold back the Colorado River, which then created Lake Mead. Next, we will continue on to Lake Mead National Recreation Area where the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy many of the tours offered in the park. Upon check-in, you will have an evening at leisure. Day 6 - Las Vegas – Calico – Sequoia National Park - Fresno Today, we begin our journey to Calico Ghost Town to relive the days where the old western towns got their reputation of lawlessness. BANG, BANG!!! Next, we will travel to Sequoia National Park where you will view the enormous mountains, rocky foothills, and the world’s largest trees some towering as tall as 115.5 meters and 8 meters in diameter. End the day in Fresno. Day 7 – Yosemite National Park – San Francisco Breakfast and a full day visit to Yosemite National Park, in the heart of the Sierra Nevada. One of the first wilderness parks in the US known for soaring cliffs and giant, thundering water falls and some of the finest scenery in the world! Enter from the west into Yosemite Valley to see many famous sites -- Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan and Glacier Point. Next we travel through the Tioga Pass to the Mariposa Grove, were you will view the giant towering sequoias and the largest trees in the world. After leaving the park we head to the city by the bay. Enjoy an evening at leisure. Day 8 – Sightseeing in San Francisco – Sausalito – Muirwoods National Park Today after breakfast, we will tour the many sights of the Bay Area. Fisherman’s Warf, North Beach, Telegraph Hill, Lombard Street “The Crookedest Street in America”, and Chinatown. Satisfy your sweet-tooth in Ghirardelli Square, shopping in Union Square and of course The Golden Gate Bridge. Afternoon we will cross the bay on the “engineering marvel” and travel north about 20km to the US National Monument Muir Woods, home of 1,000 year old redwoods towering 86 meters high. On our return to San Francisco we will stop at the picturesque waterfront community by the sea - Sausalito. Stroll along the bayside marinas, enjoy the many open air cafes and explore the intimate shops and boutiques. Enjoy an evening at leisure. Day 9 – Wine tasting in Napa Valley Load up on breakfast as we are spending the day in the famous Napa Valley. We will cross the Golden Gate and enter the Napa valley from the south. Here we will visit some wineries, check out the fermentation and bottling process and sample some great vintages. Visits to a cowboy-town Calistoga know for the exotic Mud baths and Napa’s own “Old Faithful”. After a full day of stomping around grape vines we return to San Francisco for some needed rest. Day 10 – California Coast – Monterey & Carmel - Hearst Castle Grab a big breakfast and replenish after all the wine and don’t forget the camera as we are in for a day of breathtaking views. We will travel the famed US Route 1 south towards two jewels of the west coast. First up is Monterey followed by Carmel. Then we travel the spectacular 17–mile drive through Big Sur ending up at Hearst Castle, the legendary manor sitting 530 meters above the sea. Explore the 165 room estate with gardens, terraces and pools. Enjoy an evening at leisure.
